I have only one complaint about this figure, and that is that getting the gun holster on was a total pain, but everything else about this figure is amazing. If you're thinking of getting it do, that's the only advice I have.

Battlestar Galactica Exclusive Scar Cylon Raider Statue by Diamond Select Review

Battlestar Galactica Exclusive Scar Cylon Raider Statue by Diamond Select
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Well its the first time I have Bought from Diamond Select and overall I am very pleased with the product. The base is nice and heavy and bears the logo scar and I have to say is nicely done in its design and finish. The raider itself looks great on display and visually looks the part in shape and design, quite a menacing feel to it. The face of the raider is spot on,although the eye is all red which is not a problem for me as it really makes it stand out more. The reverse booster rockets are nicely done. The wings nice and fine. Overall I would say the detail is good but not Brilliant, I do feel that they could have done a better job with the battle damage, especially on the wing side and tip, as it is all of the same casting, I feel they could have separated the detail here to make it stand out more. As for the box again nicely done. Would I buy another of their products I would have to say yes.Personally I have given this a five as I am a big fan of the show, in between a 4-5 would be more accurate of the product.

The Exclusive Cylon Raider Scar Statue measures 8a? tall x 7a? wide x 11a? long, and is accompanied by a nameplate display belt. Scara?TMs sleek scythe-like design is heavily weatherworn; Scara?TMs sinister red-visored countenance, framed at the core of the sleekly inverted wings, is identified by its cruelly hackneyed gash. Cylon Raiders are equipped with FTL drives and Kinetic Energy weaponry, and can serve as transports for nuclear weapons. The cybernetic nature of the Cylon Raider allows for continuing proficiency through recycled field experience; Cylon Raider Scar, in particular, seemed to benefit from this process. Defined by a palpable sense of deliberation and comparative strategic intricacies, Scar favored ambush techniques along with hit-and-run and divide-and conquer tactics.

Tandem Twin Animal Girls - Leopard Girl - Schell Review

Tandem Twin Animal Girls - Leopard Girl - Schell
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As one reviewer has pointed out; these are not children's toys, oh no, not by any means! They are wonderful little collectable figurines of which I have quite a large collection. Be not fearful though, I am well into my twenties, have had sex many times, do not let children play with my figurines when they visit, and enjoy my little hobby.
This particular figurine, while not my favorite, is indeed quite nice though. She reminds me of an old girl friend so that makes it kind of special I suppose. My current partner does not know this, and I am not about to tell her, but that is a different story.
The details on this one are quite nice and workmanship great. I know the character calls for it, but the tail is a bit much on this one. This was and is a nice addition to my collection.
Again, these little figurines are not for children in any size, shape or form. They are collectable for big boys and big girls like me. We love them. These do have a Choke Warning on them although why anyone would give something like this to a little one is beyond me.

I am a fan of Darth Vader but I didn't want to put the full size replica light saber on my desk at work. This is the perfect solution. The mini lightsaber fits nicely with my other nic-nacs. People who walk by can't help but pick it up. Although most people complain that it doesn't light up or anything. I am happy I get to show my appreciation for the dark side without taking up too much desk space!

Excel Saga: Nishiki Ropponmatsu 1/8 PVC Figure Review

Excel Saga: Nishiki Ropponmatsu 1/8 PVC Figure
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased both this, and the special color edition. Ropponmatsu barely appears in the Excel Saga anime, but she's such a charmingly annoying character, and so cute, I had to have them.
The figure is very highly detailed, from the puckered around the knee stockings, to the eyes, (though the color of the eyes isn't quite right). The hair color on this particular version is supposed to be pink, and it is...at the very tips, but it's mostly white, so the color isn't quite accurate.
She doesn't quite 'hold' to her base well, so some care must be taking when displaying or she'll fall off. Same goes for the removable booster pack. If you have a cat as I do, be prepared to see it fall once in a while. Fortunately, the figure is well constructed and durable, with one small caveat.
The little cable that comes off the back of her 'cat ear' is poorly mounted. Both of mine came off their repective figures on the very first day I got them. I'd recommend having a tube of crazy glue handy to put them back on, as unless you put them in a closed display box, there's a big chance you'll also have yours break off. If I didn't know better, they weren't attached with anything more than 1mm of weak plastic, they cannot take any impact at all.
That said, since crazy glue fixed them stronger than the original, I'm not going to deduct much for this one weakness.
Overall, especially considering the price, this figure is a gem for anyone who thought Ropponmatsu Version 2 was a sweet character. And not a bad deal for anyone who just likes cute characters, this one's cute, and there's no denying that!

Battlestar Galactica: Razor: Classic Cylon Raider Statue Review

Battlestar Galactica: Razor: Classic Cylon Raider Statue
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Well the item comes in a very nice colourfull, sturdy box, with the logo Battlestar Gallactica RAZOR, and a picture of the contents on the front. The sides of the box show the logo of Pegasus, very nice in my opinion. The Raider itself is nicely done and looks the part, with good crisp detail on the whole to both top, and the underside of the ship. The cannons look the part with reasonble detail and although there is nothing wrong with them I feel they could have been done a bit better, but maybe thats me being over critical. There is a small degree of weathering to the ship which I feel could have been extended to the cockpit which is too much of a shiny black. To be critical if you hold the Raider to the light there are a few tiny casting flaws these however are really not that noticable but are there. The ship itself makes a nice visual display piece and captures the look of the heavy raider. The stand that it sits on is well designed and looks the part, and I feel fits in with the cylon image. In all a nice item that I feel could be made better by anyone who cared to add a bit more weathering highlights but again maybe thats just me not wanting a pristine looking vessel . The main reason I gave this 4 out of the five stars is mainly down to the pristine look of the ship which makes it a bit toy like, but some people prefer them that way. This now stands alonside my cylon raider and I have to say the two make great display pieces. Im sure in time I will appreciate them more and more.

This is the first time I have purchased a diamond select item. And I must openly admit that I am very very pleased with the overall product. This viper Mk. II does in fact measure 8 inches long, is extremely detailed, came in a well packaged box and I must admit it does look like it came right from my tv screen. Though two issues do come up. When peering into the cockpit there seems to be two holes for pieces. I searched all through the box and the packaging and could not find them. The cockpit canopy is also quite loose and if you're not careful you'll lose it quickly. Overall though this is a wonderful collector's item for battlestar fans and I wholeheartedly back this item

Starfarers of Catan Review

Starfarers of Catan
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have loved Settlers of Catan since I first played it. I was thrilled when I first saw Starfarers (I loved the retro Flash Gordon look).
Unlike the other Settler games, this one actually uses plastic and not wood for many of the pieces/parts. My friends can be quite rowdy late at night but in the years I have had the game, no piece has ever broken.
Play is a little different than in other sets. Its sort of like Seafarers with lots of little islands. Development cards are there (although there are some new resources) and they have been joined by encounter cards where you deal with alien races, traders and pirates. Play lasts a little longer than the original but is comparable to Cities & Knights.
The board is beautiful and rather large (no small contained hex this time). Players ability to move and fight are modified by upgrades to their central ship/die roller/neat thing. There is currently an expansion set for adding up to two more players which I just picked up (so I don't know how it affects play yet).
All in all, this is a really fun addition to the Settlers world of games (I have eight of them so far). If you liked the original and wanted a bit more of a challenge, this is a great addition to your game closet.

Cosmic Encounter Review

Cosmic Encounter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Cosmic Encounter was first created by an obscure, small-run publisher. In 1977.
Fantasy Flight is the game's fourth publisher.
That alone should tell you how much this game rocks. Any other game would have died off by now.
Thankfully, Fantasy Flight Games has been buying up licenses to out-of-print classics and re-releasing them using their high production values.
The result is an immensely satisfying game that should bring a smile to hard-core Cosmic fans and newcomers alike.
The basic premise of Cosmic is that each player assumes the role of an alien civilization and tries to land their ships on five different planets belonging to other players.
The core mechanic of the game ([total ships on each side + a numeric card], highest total wins the encounter) is easy to understand, yet has endless possibilities for tactics, diplomacy, or out-and-out strangeness.
By far the two strongest aspects of this game's offense vs. defense encounter are these:
1) Allies: No matter whose turn it is, any player has the opportunity to be involved in the current encounter. None of this "is it my turn?" monotony of other games. You always have something to do. "Do I risk getting involved?" "Can I afford to help defend?"
The opportunities for diplomacy/negotiation are endless - and the ally rules ensure that nobody is a wall-flower.
2) Random destiny: In the vast majority of encounters - who attacks who is determined randomly. This does not adversely affect tactics and (more importantly) cuts down on hurt feelings. While there are plenty of ways to mess with other players, when you do get attacked - the game's mechanic is to blame.
Any true fan of this game loves the endless variety it offers - each player has an alien power that allows them to break the rules in a limited way. Different powers will collide in unique ways and since there are 50 different alien powers you are unlikely to see the same combinations twice.
Example 1: the normal rules say players start with four ships on each of their planets, but the alien called Macron has all of their ships count as 4 ships. so attacking a Macron planet, you find yourself facing the equivalent of 16 ships instead of 4. Advantage: Macron.
Example 2: the normal rules say that in an encounter, the side with the highest total (ships + encounter card) wins. The alien called Anti-Matter reverses this - and so when Anti-Matter is attacking or defending, the lowest total wins.
Combine those two examples and you have Anti-Matter attacking the Macrons with one ship while the Macrons are wishing their ships were like everyone else's.
And the craziness just goes on from there - that's barely a taste of the variety you will see when you play.
Component wise - FF has done us all a solid. Plastic flying saucer pieces that stack, quality cardboard pieces with gorgeous art, special cards with instructional text (helping new players and veterans alike).
Cosmic was always a game that begged to be supplemented and FF has provided a good jumping off point (50 aliens, instead of the 100+ that existed in earlier versions).
Expansions are undoubtedly in the works - and the components have been built to support this. The destiny cards have special graphics for Hazards (which are not in this game) - and the planet tokens have a different graphic on each side, something that will doubtless support some diabolical new rule whenever FF gets around to publishing expansion #1.
The sticker price is daunting - and I hope new players aren't put off by it too much. This is a game that is well made and a lot of fun - it's worth the money. Players who are afraid of lots of rules should not be afraid of Cosmic, but they should be aware that the rules as written will almost always mutate in bizarre (and entertaining) ways.
E.g. Players are allowed to "Cosmic Zap" or negate a player's power. In the example I gave earlier (Anti matter vs. Macron) the enterprising Macron player who finds themselves losing by ten or so will Cosmic Zap themselves (changing their ship total from 16 to 4) and allowing them to score less than Anti-Matter - and therefore win. The Anti-Matter player (if they were especially fiendish and had the card) would also zap their own power (making the lower total a losing total) and would win because their total was now higher than Macron's total!
Bizarre - but fun! When was the last time a boardgame surprised you?
Cosmic will show you something new in pretty much every session.

I got this one as a gift and I must say that the first thing I thought when I saw it was "This is soo TINY!" and not in a bad way but out of amazement. You could never guess how small this model is by just looking at the photos because it has such a high level of detail that you could easily think it is a life-size ED 209 you're seeing. It has just the right amount of articulation points. the cannon 'arms' swivel up and down, the head-body twists and both legs swing back and forth to pose it as you like. the 'shoulder wings' are also articulated but they do not swing enough as to improve any pose, I would've rather have those articulation points on the knees or at least on the middle toes but it is nothing to cry about. The thing you MUST take into consideration is that if you plan to also buy KOTOBUKIYA ROBOCOP MODEL KIT,they will not look good together since they are not both made at the same scale. Robocop will tower over ED 209 so bad luck for those of us who wanted to re-enact the movie scene. That's the main reason why I haven't bought yet that KOTOBUKIYA ROBOCOP MK 2 MODEL KIT but I know I will nevertheless 'cause those three are officialy Clasic Hollywood Robots and no movie fan should miss the chance to own them.

Is quite disappointing on how the expansion planets maps turn out to be. It is actually stickers that you have to stick onto the map. If you want to stick it permanently, you have to slice the sticker into two so that you can fold the board back to keep. Maybe they should have design the the expansion maps in a card board form so that we can just place it on top of the map and remove once we are done playing. Now I have to decide whether to stick it permanently or to make my own card board planets for the game.

Nexus Ops Review

Nexus Ops
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First off, if you are looking for the rare strategy game that can accomodate three players without one player wanting to smash the other two over the head after the inevitable 'gang-up' phase, this one plays excellently. Strategic position, army-building, and alliances take a backseat to planning ahead to accomplish hidden objectives from secret mission cards, which garner points towards victory. The secret missions vary in points awarded, the more valuable ones requiring putting out and using super units, or making suicidal attacks that may utterly trash your best army, but get you the last points you need for victory. The game plays very quickly compared to most strategy boardgames. There is enough random element in it that new and younger players will not be overwhelmed; yet enough strategy hidden in it that experienced players will enjoy tweaking their play to pick up an edge here or there. The 'board' consists of hexagonal cardboard pieces that are randomly fit together at the start of the game in a configuration that suits 2-4 players, with smaller cardboard tokens on top to indicate what the sector contains. While this adds a random replayable element, it and the many, many pieces involved also tend to require some constant tending throughout the game to keep the board 'together' and the pieces where they belong. This game has found a lot of repeat play with my friends as a fast and fun alternative to deeper, more strategic but time-consuming games like Shogun.

Twilight Imperium 3rd Edition Review

Twilight Imperium 3rd Edition
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Twilight Imperium is one of the best games I have ever played. As a student at college, my friends and have 1-2 board game nights per week; with Twilight Imperium and Acquire being the most played games. I would highly recommend this game, though the learning curve is rather steep (an hour at to learn the rules) and the game takes a long time to play (4+ hours). If you are looking for a conquest game like RISK, stop reading now. Twilight Imperium is based on maneuvering, preparation, and diplomacy with few significant battles in the game.
The game is played to victory 10 points and unlike most war games, conquest is not the only means of victory. Points are acquired through capturing planets but also "researching" technology, and political decisions. The method of determining turn order is also quite original. Each player chooses a card (1-8) which in addition to being the order in which the players play, gives each player a special ability for that round. To further add interest each card has a secondary ability which all the other players can use when the player owning the card uses it. As a result not only are broad discussion (like conquest or technology) important but every turn can be critical as the players ability to ace often depends directly on when and how the other players act. This may seem as if it would slow the game, but a restriction on how many turns a player can take per round keeps the game moving nicely but keeps strategy extremely important through out.
This is not to say I don't have a few complaints about the game. The first couple of times we played we noticed some imbalances which led to certain having a definite advantage and the game always trending in the same way. There are 3 ways to get these points. Every player can complete common objectives, a new one being revealed each turn. A player gets 2 points every time they get the 8 card, and a player has a secret objective which can be worth two points. Our problem was that everyone accomplished the same common objectives. Because the 8 is so valuable, whoever went first had to take the 8, the person on their right then always took the 1 (and so they chose first next turn), so they could get the 8 next turn. Anyone who failed to follow this pattern automatically became 2 points behind, and never could catch up. The result is that there is little strategy to taking the 8 or the 1. Finally the secret objectives vary greatly in difficulty. As a result players who got easy secret objectives, or got to go first were far more likely to win. In fact in our first 3 games (5 players), the player who went first won 2 of them, and the only player that completed his secret objective in the 3rd game, won that one. At this point we were ready to give up on the game but instead we played around with the rules and came up with a slightly variation which greatly helped improve the game. If you do buy this game I highly recommend trying this variation after playing the normal rules a couple of times.
Rule Variation:
Many of these rule variations were taken from the Twilight Imperium Rule Variations which can be found (...)
1) The 8 card's text has been modified to the Game Option: Ancient Throne which gives a player 1 point for controlling Mecatol Rex. This modification greatly increases the strategy in choosing the 8 or 1.
2) Long War Variant: Play to 14 victory points. This will be necessary due to rule change # 3.
3) A player receives 2 victory points if they capture a planet in an opponent's home system. A player may only get points for a home system once. If the owner of the home system was not in control of the planet when it was captured this is reduced to 1 point. The reason for this rule was to encourage conquest (something that was seriously lacking in our previous games). The point reduction rule is to help prevent two players from allying to take a home system (since one of the players will not get all the points).
4) Every player receives 2 secret objectives. After creating the board but before the first turn each player must choose and discard one of them. This rule helps reduce the problem of unbalanced (in terms of difficulty) secret objectives.
5) You may only complete public objectives if you control all the planets in your home system (you may complete other objectives however). This allows players to slow down a player who gets too far ahead.
6) Destroyers get 4x Anti-fighter barrage. Destroyers are the weakest units in the game; this makes them a little better, but still hardly worth using.
7) The common objectives are laid face up on the table (you may still only complete the first after the first turn, second after the second, etc). This reduces the luck involved near the end of the game, as every one knows what is coming.
8) Technology can be purchased with influence or resources (but no combination). This rule helps balance the planets so everyone has more equal resources.
These rules seem to be very effective. While most players still get all of the common objectives, winning the game now depends on controlling Mecatol Rex, completing secret objectives or taking home systems. Players have been very successful using any combination of these three methods, and no race has done better or worse than any other. While these may seem to lead to large amount of conquest, this has never been the case, with only 3-10 major battles occurring in 4 player games.
