It comes with not only the chrome gun (which you never saw in the series) but the sword AND the small plastic pellets which you can shoot out of the gun. The American version never had these features, and although it is not little kid friendly, it is well worth it for the collector. Also, can you say DIE CAST METAL!

(More customer reviews)This toy may not be for the average nitpicky collector, but your child will love it. It has a remarkably complex transformation for how tiny he is, and all kids love insects. The colors work well, and the spring gimmick is (suprisingly) fun to mess with.

(More customer reviews)There are many aspects about Takara that makes them exceptional over Hasbro. One of them is the care and attention to detail. Almost never do you see Hasbro adding shiny chrome pieces to their figures on the first release. With Takara that sort of thing's standard issue. A HUGE plus is that with Takara figures there are NO frustrating twist ties keeping the figure firmly imprisoned in his plastic cage. Now onto Megatron himself;
While some might view the transformation of this guy as a bit hard it really is very intuitive, even on the second try. If needed a quick glance at the instructions (though in Japanese) will set you on your way. The color scheme is very much in keeping with G1 Megatron, not like the ever curious white/purple/neon green of Hasbro. The articulation is top notch, this Megatron has a world and half of possible poses in him. His fusion cannon is almost perfectly sized for his arm. Any who own or have even seen the Masterpiece Megatron know how an obscenely large gun can shave off good points. There have been gripes about the wings on this particular figure, but I honestly don't care. They're part of the transformation, they don't get in the way all that much, and in some poses they actually look pretty cool.
And yes the design for his gun mode was loosely based off of some Nerf gun. Fine whatever, he's supposed to be a space-like gun anyway. His head by the way is nicely G1-esk, with some very good red light piping. I have a small issue with his fist on his cannon arm. When pointing his cannon his fist is sideways in a weird way. It bothers me a little up close but unless you're really REALLY looking it over you can't tell. He doesn't fall apart easily all of his joints snap in and out of place solidly.
Final Conclusion: You really can't go wrong with this figure. My advice is to pass on the Hasbro classics Megatron and go for Takara's. Don't worry about the price. When I bought mine is was about forty-three dollars and that's completely worth it.

Takara will modify the paint schemes on all the Japanese Classics figures.They are introducing completely different paint on Megatron and Astrotrain, and the other figures all will have chrome added along with slightly different designs to their paint scheme. The fabled warlord Megatron has now finally been reinstated, abandoning the Walther for the new boisterous anti-proton pulse gun mode. In robot mode, Megatron retains a semblance of his Gen 1 look. The massive gun scope converts into his underslung arm-mounted cannon. In the early days Megatron surreptitiously stockpiled power and leverage while he combed through the underground gladiator games and recruited his first warriors; during this time Megatron upgraded himself to outr?? capacity. Megatrona?TMs Classics profile portrays him in dark reverence, describing him as a conquest-driven engine of destruction and creating the impression that his anti-proton pulse cannon mode is a more autonomous assault weapon than the Walther version.

I am using this as a model to look at next to my computer. There is no "transform" capability but you can adjust the figurine into multiple positions allowing for countless poses which makes it worth it. I am very pleased with the purchase!

1. Great looking Megatron that is obviously Megatron. (Too many incarnations of the Decipticon leader could have been anyone, but just named "Megatron".) The grey and black coloring and, of course, the arm cannon make it clear who this guy is. Really like the spaceship mode as well. Much better than the movie version.
2. Very nice Optimus that, gratefully, has the head with the face plate, not the mouth, (Optimus should not have a mouth!) unlike the other $10 version of Prime.
3. Very reasonable price that keeps me from having to spend twice as much to get the similar, larger versions of each.
4. Comes with a intro to the new series, which allowed me to preview the animated series to see if it would be worth buying.
The only drawback, in my opinion, is the "battle damage" paint patterns on both. Could have done without that.

Let me start by saying I purchased this at full price, 24.99. My husband was making fun of me when he opened the box and saw how little there was to the game. This was marked down just before Christmas to 7.95! I was a little worried that it might be junk. BUT- my son LOVES this toy. He got tons of stuff for Christmas but this one seems to be his favorite. He wants to play it over and over and over again. I suppose I got my money out of it. Note: The blue guy knocks over the gray guy every time. The gray one is much easier knocked off.
