Carcassonne: Traders Review

Carcassonne: Traders
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is an expansion for the Carcassonne game; note that you need the original game to use this. Also note that this is not compatible with the Hunters and Gatherers version of Carcassonne.
This expansion introduces trade goods into cities. When a city is completed, the person collects all goods inside the city (this person who completes the city may not be the same person who controls a city -- this introduces incentive to complete an opponent's city.) The person who had a majority of one of the three trade goods collects 10 extra points at the end of the game, which may give a 30 point swing at the end.
A builder is also introduced. A builder is placed on either a city or a road that you already control. When you add a tile to this road or city, you get to take an extra turn (maximum of one extra turn.) This can really help complete a city.
Finally, a farmer is introduced; it's placed in a field you already control and all fields are worth a puny extra point. (So at the end of the game a city would score 5 points instead of 4.) This is the single worst addition to the game in both expansions, as it has little effect on the game. But the rest of the game is good.
There are a lot of new city tiles, many of them "strange" in the way they cut off cities and fields. It's worth playing. A bag is included for storing tiles which solves the problem of the 1st expansion having slightly different colored backs. (Something I didn't notice until pointed out to me.)

This 2nd expansion takes Carcassonne to new dimensions of fun and excitement. Traders can earn players extra points and builders enable players to place extra tiles, allowing the cities and roads to grow faster. A pig, properly placed, can enrich the value of a farm. Also included is a small cloth bag for the tiles, making it easier to shuffle and draw them during the game. Traders & Builders is not a complete game, but must be played with Carcassonne.

Days of Wonder Ticket to Ride 1910 Expansion Review

Days of Wonder Ticket to Ride 1910 Expansion

The Ticket to Ride 1910 Expansion (TTR 1910) is an expansion for the basic Ticket to Ride game only. The expansion is great in that it adds game play options as well as improves the basic comfort of the game itself. Some game expansions are just a way to get you to spend more money on a game you already own without adding a lot to game play. TTR 1910 is worth the investment. It adds fun and convenience to an already great game.
TTR 1910 significantly increases the number of destination tickets available adding 35 new long and short haul routes to the game. The new routes are fun and varied, and allow each player to customize his or her strategy around certain city connections.
Also included are four cards from the out of print "Mystery Train Expansion." These cards are for very short routes and are low scoring. They don't add much to the game play.
The expanded rules offer instructions for different game variations that focus on big cities, the new 1910 destinations, or the Mega Game featuring all 65 destination tickets in the box. We tend to stick with the Mega Game for large groups, but for games with fewer players the other variations make for new and fun experiences. We really enjoy the opportunity to develop new game play strategies.
There's also a new 15 point bonus card to reward the player who completes the most routes. This is a nice addition to the game.
In addition to improved game play, the expansion cards are now the same size as regulation playing cards making them significantly easier to hold and play. You get reprints of all of the cards included with the original game so you don't have to mix the cards or choose between the original set or the expansion. For my friends and I, this was a significant improvement over the tiny set that came with the original game.
You might also consider picking up a GLD Pitboss 55-0112 Four Deck Card Shuffler. You'll go through the cards pretty quickly and the shuffler keeps things moving.

TICKET TO RIDE - THE DICE EXPANSION Review

TICKET TO RIDE - THE DICE EXPANSION

Got the dice expansion pack and played Ticket to Ride with the Dice. The group of people I played with, myself included, all agreed that the dice expansion pack make the game easier and faster, but not as fun as with playing with the TTR colored train cards. We want to create a few house rules to implement the dice portion into regular play.

This expansion for the Ticket to Ride boardgame will have you rolling your way to victory! It is compatible with any Ticket to Ride board map. Players still try to complete their Destination Tickets by claiming routes while blocking each other on the map, but instead of drawing Train cards, they roll the five custom Train dice on each turn. They can then use the dice to claim routes, collect Route Tokens to be used later in the game, or draw more Destination Tickets. Three Tunnel dice are included for board maps that have Tunnel routes.
Please note: This is not a stand-alone game. This expansion requires trains, Destination Tickets and a board map from any of the Ticket to Ride boardgame series.
