(More customer reviews)Although this game is pegged by slogans on the box that say "A Game for a Couple," I believe this is a great game for any two people that would like to get to know one another better, especially when there may be some ice yet to break -- or simply huge differences in lifestyle that one does not want to make an issue about.
I love the way the game promises not to put you in a terribly embarrasing spot trying to answer your question. That is great when it is what you want -- but sometimes you just really want to get to know the other person without feeling too threatened and just have a good time.
My only real criticism of this game is the foo-foo packaging. It's about as sexy as a cup of coffee in the break room at Good Housekeeping. (BORING.) Also, the actual game board is small and flimsy looking, the artwork strictly late-fifties housewife mode. Hey, but if there was anything to have wrong with the game I'd rather those things. Oh, one other thing is I think it would not have been that hard to make this into a game playable by up to 4 people but the game only offers to player pieces and one die and the very small game board, which seems a bit of a shame, especially since it is not exactly an inexpensive game.
All in all, though I give it TWO THUMBS UP! I'll be using it both to get to know a new suitor better -- and to get to know a niece I never met before.
P.S. One thing I forgot to mention which to me is a real plus: hundreds of these question cards are adorned with quotes. Love them quotations! Someone (or some people) put a LOT of time and thought into putting this game together, and they did a swell job. (smile)

The whole point of this wonderful card game is do things and buy things (slack) that relieve you from the stress of your job. The cards range from wholesome things, like a cat, and cup-of-noodles to more wild things like nookie, beers, and "significant others". This game is a laugh riot to play with a group of friends, I prefer to play it by spouting out the hilarious quotes from each card as I play them. This game is a must for people in their late teens through their twenties, a complete blast!

(More customer reviews)We first played this at a friend's house and laughed so much and so hard we couldn't believe it! It's easy enough for anyone to play (we had a 7yo join us at one point, and even though it's a little more advanced than that, she had a great time).
The only downside is that once we played the game about 5-6 times (remember, for HOURS at a time - we never just played a quick game), we eventually got through most of the cards and some of the fun (but only SOME!) was gone because we knew what cards to give to each person to "win" the hand.
That said, we have also taken to "editing" the cards on the fly, basically creating our own cards, which adds to the fun. This is in addition to the 25 or so blank create-your-own cards that come with the game, which you really should take advantage of. We were hesitant, but after playing a few games, we knew what kind of things to write down and now some of those are the funniest choices.
This game has been tested with many different people (young and old, good friends, aunts and uncles) and it's always a hit. It's definitely worth the $20.

The thing I like the most about the game is that it's fast paced, never boring, and doesn't take an hour or two to play most games only last 20-30 minutes TOPS!
On a side note about the expansion sets that are available for the game, the original "Core Game" and its expansions have been retired and replaced by the "Party Box". The "Party Box" contains the entire collection of cards from the original "Core Game" plus the "Core" expansion sets 1 & 2.
The "Party Box Expansion 1" contains cards from the third and fourth "Core" expansions, and a "Party Box Expansion 2" contains all new cards.
I know I had a hard time trying to figure out all of the different versions and expansions, so hopefully this will help somebody out there.

A bit pricey but the hours of entertainment we gain from it makes it worth it to us.
We love Settlers of Catan but were getting tired of playing the same game over/over again and the above game doesn't travel well. This card game is just as fun as Settlers (although completely different) and we like that it's cards and it travels well....
highly recommend it.

I am a 'new' Tolkien fan. After seeing the Lord of the Rings movie and loving it.. I decided I had to read the books. The characters / story just fascinates me. I also enjoy the Tarot quite a bit - so when I remembered that there was a Lord of the Rings Tarot - I got excited... Until I read the reviews. OUCH!
I am not in any way saying the reviews are wrong. From what I understand, there are a lot of "technical differences"... and ALOT of questioning of why certain people / things were chosen for the cards they depict. I understand and agree with most of this... which is why it took me a long time before I broke down and purchased the deck...
I realized the reason I like the deck is because I am approaching it differently. 1. I like the artwork. Some of the pictures are quite intuitive to me - irrespective of the story. 2. I find the sentences on the cards helpful in remembering some of the aspects of the card meaning. 3. I like seeing the characters I enjoy on the cards - It helps me relate better to the deck as a whole.
While I realize there is a lot wrong with this deck, personally, I find that if I approach it loosely, it can be fun and I can get a lot out of it. I find that I just enjoy using cards that remind me of a story I love - I read the cards as they make me feel when I look at them - and I don't take the rest of it too seriously.
This deck may or may not be for you. Take all of the reviews / information into consideration, look at the cards yourself, and then make your own decision.

Too often games these days seem to encourage finding that one strategy or that one "card" or "position" that wins every time; this seems to be particularly true of video games. The Settlers of Catan card game seems to be relatively free of this. It is true that if you can "memorize" what cards are in what piles you can gain a kind of advantage. But there isn't a single card, or even set of cards, that gaurantee victory each and every time.
My friends and I played the Settlers of Catan and the Starfarers board games, and the associated expansions, for a couple of years before I decided to try the card game. I'm a gamer and I could never get my wife to play video games. But she took to this game immediately and we've expanded our collection to include the expansion and several other similar card games.
There are similarities to the Settlers of Catan board game, but there are alot of differences as well. The rules are relatively simple and easy to learn. If you've played any Mayfair game chances are you'll understand the rules pretty well after one game. If you are new to this type of game it might take a couple of trys to learn the rules.
The basic premise of the game is to build a principality and in the process be the first to reach 12 victory points. You can either chose to expand your principality by building more villages or by improving it with cities and associated buildings. Buildings and improvements are built by gathering the necessary resources of brick, wood, wool, and grain; gold serves a kind of commodity that you can trade for other resources. Various improvements e.g. fleets make trading for other resources more efficient or can even double your land production. Each games takes an hour or two to complete and *alot* of table space.

(More customer reviews)Blue Moon has slowly become one of my favorite games. It is easily both my favorite two player game and also my favorite card game. And I have a lot of games. It is the combination of depth, complexity and art that makes it so good. It creates a whole world. The Blue Moon world. I love it. If the odd ruleset, with the many special situations, keeps sending you back to the rulebook, persist. It is worth it.
Blue Moon has been compared to Magic: The Gathering. In play it feels different. Instead of a single long fight, you have a series of shorter ones. This means you can retreat from a fight (losing), but live on, hopefully with your strongest cards still to play. Another key difference is that you can play Blue Moon very well with factory decks. Each Vulca deck is the same. It has been play tested against all the other decks. You can build a custom deck also, but only according to rules that ensure balance. You may not have two identical cards in any deck, which I think is a good rule.
I particularly like the high production values for this card game. The cards are over-sized (the same size as many tarot decks), it comes with a board that organizes gameplay, three plastic dragons that function as scoring tokens, and a well printed and mercifully mistake-free rulebook. It also has a well designed box insert that holds everything in place. This is far above your typical card game and well worth the modest cost of the game. The game is also very good without any of the expansion decks. The two starter decks alone are fun to play for a long time.
The deck you choose gives you strategic direction, and the cards you draw give you tactical opportunities. This interplay of strategy and tactics is what makes the game far deeper and more re-playable than you would expect. The ludicrous fantasy theme and half naked babes give you.. fantasy and half naked babes! Of course if you find stuff like this obnoxious then this may not be your game. My girlfriend won't play this with me because of the art (she is missing out on a great game).
There has been much debate over whether the decks (each representing one of the various Blue Moon peoples) are balanced. They are. However it is clear that some decks are harder to play well than other decks. In the base set, for example, the Vulca seem stronger at first than their opponents, the Hoax. But, as you learn the decks you will find that the Hoax are a very good match for the Vulca. If all decks were easy to play, there would be no depth to the game. I still find that the two starter decks are one of my favorite match ups in the entire pantheon.

Blue Moon is fast-paced and easy to learn. Each player plays with a 30-card deck, representing one of the factions vying for control of the three elemental dragons. Each card is oversized, allowing more space to show off the artistic detail. Each turn, the players battle for control of the dragons, playing characters or other helpful cards from their deck, and imbuing their characters with greater and greater power, in order to overwhelm their opponent and force a retreat. My entire family begs to play this game together. (I'd suggest ages 12 and up, but if your kids are precocious, I'd say 7 and up -- they can always choose a different card if they aren't familiar with the subject). Many ways to get around the "rules" without actually "cheating", to enable younger ones to play.

(More customer reviews)The card game was played by 33 people of both sexes ranging in ages from 6 to 45 in a 3 week period.It seems the younger the person was ,the less fun they had.I think this was due to the fact that they are under the recommended age listed for the game.As for the older players, most enjoyed it at first but lost interest after a while.It is one of those games that work great for long winter nights or family gatherings.

Pass the Bomb Review

(More customer reviews)The central idea behind Pass the Bomb is for each player, in turn, to create new words using a three letter combination pre-determined by the cards. A roll of the dice decides whether the three letters needs to come at the end, the beginning or or anywhere within the word. A bomb timer goes off after a certain amount of time and the player who, at that moment, has failed to come up with a new word loses that round.
The game is sort of like Boggle in that you are provided some letters and then you need to think as fast as possible to come up with words that other players haven't used yet. What's especially different here is that there's no period of silence like you have with Boggle which makes this a far better party atmosphere game. Because it pushes players to come up with more words on their own it's likely that the game is more educational than Boggle as well. One word of caution: Like many word games, this one is definitely not for younger kids. Above the age of nine or ten should be fine, however.
About the only complaint I have about the game is the bomb timer. The components of the game consist of the cards, one die, and the timer. Given the lack of materials necessary to make the cards and die the bomber should be a little more hi-tech. Instead, the explosion sound is a little bit on the wimpy side.
As a word game fan (Scrabble, Boggle, Upwards, Quiddler) I'd say this is one of the best choices out there. It's more social than Scrabble, Boggle, and Upwards and demands more ability than Quiddler.

It does not strike me as as funny as several of the other sets (like they were trying to stretch a little far), and definitly not as funny as they could be considering the number of Japanese and samurai flicks out there to make fun of. Deifnitly worth buying for the Munchkin enthusiast, but I would recommend Star Munchkin or the regular Munchkin as a better alternative for newcomers to the game.

(More customer reviews)The box says that it's for 12+, but I find that more often than not, this game is for adults. I bought this game two years ago because that evening, I was hosting a party and needed something to spice things up. I had no idea what it was really about but the directions seemed interesting. Needless to say, we had a blast that night and every other time that we played the game.
The game proceeds in three rounds and played with teams. The object of the game is to try to get your teamates to guess as many famous people as you can. The people range from authors, poets, artistis, musicians, actors, even fictional characters. The first round, you can say and do anything. The second round, you can only say ONE word and pantomine the rest. The last and hardest round, you can't say a single word. Everything has to be acted out.
Yes, it's not a totally orginal idea and yes, there will be famous people whom you've never heard of! Don't let that stop you though! Even if you don't know who the celebrity is, there are ways that you can still get your teammates to guess them. Also, there is a little booklet that comes with the game that explains who everyone is/was.
In short, whenever we play, I laugh so hard my sides start to hurt and my cheeks start to ache! You'll find your friends (and even yourself!) doing the zaniest things!

Unfortunately the name of the game bears no relation to the subject matter of a good proportion of the questions set. Someone seemed to have a real obsession with 'gansta rappers' and thought that anyone who had been killed was obviously 'goth' even if there was no corrolation whatsoever.
Because of this I think their markets are going to be severely mismatched - the people who buy this game are going to have no interest in half the questions and those who would have been interested in the questions won't pick up the game in the first place.
A real shame - not least because now no-one else can do the job properly, because the name has already been associated with this missed opportunity.

(More customer reviews)I bought this game as a gift for my son who was not quite 11 at the time. We've played it many times, and have enjoyed it a great deal. At first glance, the rules may seem a bit complex, as each turn of the game is divided into six phases. However, most of these phases are quite short, and once you play the game once or twice, you realize how quickly play can progress. This is a good introduction to more complex strategy games, as its rules are relatively simple, but successful play requires careful planning and a bit of subterfuge. As you might imagine, the game has good historical value as well.
