(More customer reviews)The launcher has to be held at a very specific angle in order for the launch button to be depressed. This is probably for safety reasons, but it makes using the product somewhat of a hassle. You really have to fiddle with it in order to be able to launch, which is somewhat anti-climactic for the intended audience.
The 'roto' return to earth action is practically non existent. The rocket does launch to a pretty impressive height, but the roto action rarely kicks in - and if it does it is to no useful effect; so the rocket just comes back down like any other. It has a durable nerf-like nose cone which absorbs the 'landing' impact well enough, so roto or not, the rocket is usable for many flights.

(More customer reviews)This is a wonderful concept. The kit comes with a box, game board, special paper and software to help with the templates. The properties and game play are similar to a simplified version of Monopoly. You chose the names for each property and put a unique picture on each space. When you enter the photograph and the name for a particular space, the program will print up a picture to stick on the board and a corresponding property card. You can customize the money with the faces of family members, famous people or your pets. (Give some thought to which people are on the higher and lower denominations of the money!) THe project works best if you have a digital camera and a scanner. If you are making the board for family, a scanner is particularly handy because they will probably want you to use some old non-digital pictures.
I have made up several customized games for family and for a church auction. I enjoyed making the customized game board. The end result looks quite professional if you work carefully. Be advised, though, this is not a quick 3 hour project. It takes a lot of time to make up a game board. The games come out best if you put some thought into the pictures on the game spaces. There are "Good News" "Bad News" cards that can be customized to reflect good, bad and funny things that might happen to a family or organization. Making the game board can be a fun family project. Everyone enjoys picking out the pictures and arguing about what you should put for good and bad news. You would proably want to have an adult or an adolescent actually paste the pictures onto the board because getting them straight is so important.
I have bought and used several versions of this item. The newest version is easier to use than the original version. It really helps to have a high resolution printer because the images that you stick on the board are quite small. You can definitely use photographs, but due to the size of each space, I would avoid using too many group pictures. Some reviewers have complained that the customized game is less complex and less challenging than real Monopoly. True, there are no houses and hotels. However, when I wanted to make a game more interesting, I added a few phrases to some of the "Bad News" cards. I was also able to use my computer to alter the rule sheet to add some game variations that fit with the particular family or organization that would be using the game.
The game's educational value can increase depending on the way you use it. For instance if you were making a game board for a church or synagogue, you could customize the board to reflect the various committees and rituals that make up the life of the congregation. If used in this way, it can stimulate productive discussion. On the other hand, you can also choose to customize the board to simply be a fun, lightearted game.

It requires channel selection on the case/remote and vehicle itself, with an on/off switch. Once it is turned on and placed on a flat surface, it is actually faster than it appears. The kids love this item. In terms of its durability, remember that it does "fold" flat when pressed on the top "vertex" above the cockpit and requires a bit of force to get it to lock in place. Once locked in "flat" position, it actually retains that shape until you press the release button. The controls take some getting used to in terms of turning left or right but other than that it is a nice pocket replica of the movie vehicle and great for table top obstacle courses or racing. We are happy with the purchase.

This toy takes a measure of brain activity in the left frontal lobe and, based on the amount of activity there, sends power to a fan (high power when high; low or off when low). This raises a foam ball in the air and a dial can be turned with the hands to move the ball through an obstacle course that arrange with detachable pieces.
I read the other reviews. They make some good points. This toy could get boring fast. The headset does get uncomfortable after about 10 minutes. The guy who said that all it does is measure stress is way off-base. He is right that the ear clips are used to complete a circuit, but that is not all this toy does. After playing it for awhile, I can say it responds negatively to stress (i.e., the ball lowers and the fan turns off). I'm basing that off of the fact the fan tended to turn off when I would get worried about it turning off. If it was responding to stress, the power should have increased.
So why am I recommending this toy? Because studies have shown that if you can increase frontal lobe activity through exercises like this, you can increase objective measures of concentration (e.g., amount of time engaged with a task) and decrease measures of impulsivity. And not just for the task where the skill was trained. So a child who got adept at playing this game should also pay better attention in school, likely increase their reading comprehension, do better on homework, etc.
My recommendation is that, if this is something that is interesting to you, you buy this toy for your child and that you play it with them. Set performance goals with them and give them some sort of reward for meeting and exceeding those goals. Start small. At first, get a stopwatch and see how long they can keep the ball in the air. After that, see if they can start to raise and lower the ball a couple of times, then see how many times they can pass it through one of the hoops. And take data the whole time. Chart their data in some way so they can see the progress they are making.
But get this toy!!! In labs where they do this sort of therapy, children with ADHD have shown serious improvement in functioning. Some kids are able to get off meds altogether.
If you want to do a little extra research before purchasing, go to wikipedia and search neurofeedback. There's a good synopsis there with links to some peer-reviewed research at the bottom.

Mega Bloks NEO Battler Split-Shifter Review

(More customer reviews)First, the good part: it looks like it will be fun to play with, now that it's put together. It's a Bionicles knockoff, and appeals to my son the same way.
Now, the bad parts:
First, the design. It's *much* too complicated. There are far too many types of parts that are almost identical, making it hard to find the right one. (What kind of construction toy makes you distinguish between a 2.125" hose and a 1.375" hose?) Similarly, many pieces are gratuitously assymetric, and it's not easy to figure out which way they're supposed to go. By contrast, Bionicles have far fewer types of part, so they're easier to put together. Also, since they're interchangeable, you can get more creative with them.
Second, the construction: the pieces fit together very badly. Many have to be forced; my 7-year-old son was just not strong enough. (Most of them do, at least, fit snugly once they're together.) Bionicles go together much more smoothly.
Finally, the documentation. Like Lego, it has pictures instead of words. However, since the pieces are hard to tell apart, the pictures have to be *really* clear--and they aren't. They're slightly unfocused, and the colors are off.
Oh, and the last straw: after spending 90 minutes building the vehicles, I found out there were no designs for the creatures. You have to go to their Web site and hunt around for the *rest* of the manual--and then it turns out you can't Shift from vehicles to creatures; you have to start from scratch. Apparently they decided to save a few pennies by not printing the rest of the manual.
I have told my son that, if he buys any more of these, I will not help him build them.
