It's larger than the images would lead you to believe. Once its assembled its quite large.
The instructions are VERY GOOD! You cannot go wrong, if you pay attention.
My only real complaint, is still the price, if it were 30.00, it would be a lot more accessible. But with it being 59.99, I can only buy one at the moment, and I would like to have bought a couple more.
One set would stay as the TrackHoe, and then the other one I could build the alternative model, and then with the last one, I could have spare parts to build my own creation.
The Lego pieces are all very High Quality, everything snaps together like a charm. It's amazing to see a toy/model/machine, this well engineered.
I used to love legos, then kinda grew out of em. But now I am getting into Diesel Mechanics(college), and I just wanted to change my thinking, my perspective to some degree. It seems like my creativity has went down a WHOLE lot, compared to when I was younger, and trying to get that back. Trying to get that spark back so to say. To do good at your job, or at your college work, you have to be enthusiastic about it.
So that is what made me purchase this set, and I can honestly say it was well worth the money!
I really look forward to the Track Crane set that Lego is bringing out next year in January. (hopefully it will be in a good value)

LEGO Technic Power Function Accessory box (8293) Review

(More customer reviews)The Power Functions kit #8293 is a must have for the 8294 Excavator. The kit transforms the excavator into a real scale functioning excavator (I own real heavy equipment myself), which can actually dig dry sand, sifted loam, and we attached a small jewelry chain to it and it can lift things like Transfomers Bumblebee and some surprisingly heavy objects just like a real excavator does! So dont hesitate to get one of these. The motor is tiny, but is surprisingly powerful and also this kit has a nice quality switch that replicates a real hydraulic lever and also comes with accessory LED lights which snap right on easily and look sano. The Design of the battery box and the excavator is well done, it mounts underneath the tracked undercarriage and it lowers the center of gravity of the excavator, which increases its stability. Expensive, but worth the dough.

(More customer reviews)Great product - Lego simply makes the best toys. This set is very detailed, the separate driveshafts are great and the clutch mechanism is very well done. Our 7 year old build this with some help, but it is probably better suited for ages 9+. Well worth the money!

A bucket truck or a dump truck? The decision is yours with this LEGO Technic set that includes instructions on building both! Use the motorized Power Functions of the cherry picker truck to move the bucket and boom up and down. Then flip the switch to make it rotate 360 degrees around. Turn the gear on top to steer the front tires. The doors even open and close. Includes motor and battery box. Requires 6 "AA" (1.5v) batteries, not included. 726 pieces. Measures over 12" long and boom reaches over 16" tall.

LEGO TECHNIC Hauler 8264 Review

(More customer reviews)The 2009 mid-size Hauler is a nice addition to the 2008 construction lineup from Lego, namely the 8294 Excavator and 8295 Telehandler. It is nice that this kit actually has the Power Functions included with it rather than having to buy them separately as you had to with 8294 and 8295. The Hauler was much larger than I had anticipated for a mid-size model and it operates smoothly with the small PF motor and linear actuator, and the articulated steering is smooth as well. I wasn't really too hot on the new linear actuators when first introduced in 2008 to replace the pneumatic functions, but I rather like them, they make movements much more smooth and realistic than having to continually hand pump air into the cylinders of a pneumatic system. The dumper is the better than the alternate model which is a rather simple and boring flatbed truck, although the bed tilts via the linear actuator which is a nice touch. The downside to the alternate model is you have to download the instructions from the Lego website and unless you have a top-notch laser color printer the pics come out pretty grainy and it is REALLY hard to distinguish between dark gray and black pieces. I actually had to mark on the printouts what I thought were what color and go to the back of the instructions for the main model where the parts inventory was and make sure I had enough of each color. I was wrong in many instances. All in all though, the Hauler is worthy of the price and it is a fun early year model. Can't wait to see what is in store for the larger mid-year Technic offerings.
