(More customer reviews)Wrebbit's Notre Dame does everything I expect from a jigsaw puzzle. It comes together in a logical way so that things just start clicking at the end (sort of like in a good novel). It has a nice balance of visual cues and mysteries. And the result is attractive enough to display for a while.
I am not sure it is "Advanced Level" as the box suggests. I haven't put a puzzle together for years and I was able to work through this with only an enjoyable level of difficulty. The instructions cleverly force you to work with diagrams of blank pieces for various sections of the structure and color pictures that never seem to show you exactly the view you want. Between the shapes, colors and logic of the building, you figure out the rest. As a result my experience was full of those wonderful surprises: Oh, THAT's where that belongs!
The result has a clever balance of 3-D and 2-D detail that looks pretty convincing from a few feet away. It has been on my dresser for several days, and I have already begun work on the Eiffel Tower.
I really recommend this for adults that want to both relax and challenge their spatial skills.

(More customer reviews)I am certainly not into puzzles but this one takes the prize as the most fun and geographically interesting puzzle i've ever seen and put together; It does take a lot of effort to string together all pieces of the puzzle, specifically the bottom first layer and the final 120 buildings layer, but i imagine that's what puzzles are for. I became so engrossed with it towards the end of assembling the bottom layer that i ended up having a "puzzling" marathon session that lasted for 8 1/2 hours of non-stop, head-breaking matching pieces and final assemblage, almost an act of obsession !
The detail of the pieces, particularly on the tiny buildings, was rather surprising and amazing, considering their size and the price of the item.
One recommendation that i found very useful and not mentioned in the manual is to get a base (wood, plastic, etc) large enough to serve as the assembly base, as there are so many small pieces in this puzzle, so many buildings and assorted detailing, that you might as well have a base to display the end result permanently, or at least until the puzzle is fully put together and ready to be transferred to a more permanent location.
A few minor disappointments were the fact that the Metropolitan Museum building is not included in the puzzle (arguably the biggest tourist attraction in New York City and major historic building), the detailing on the bridges, compared to the detailing on all the 120 buildings, is non-exhisting, and the same can be said about the World Trade Center Twin Towers, which the manufacturer decided to include with the puzzle as well as having their own places on the final assembled puzzle, even though they don't exist any longer.
Overall, a highly recommended item; Just be prepared to become unwittingly obsessed with finalizing the puzzle and have some water or other liquid handily available, or like myself you might end up dehidrated in blissfull obsessiveness !

Puzz 3D - U.S. Capitol Building Review

(More customer reviews)I received this for Christmas. I was not overly enthused when I first saw it. I am more used to the 1000 piece flat jigsaw puzzles. However, this was a lot of fun to put together and a lot easier than the flat puzzles. I managed it easily in about 8 hours over 3 days. The pieces go together easily, for the most part. The upper dome is a challenge, however.
The pieces are foam backed instead of cardboard. When you open the box you will find that many of them are still attached. So the first thing you will need to do is carefully separate those that are still attached. This puzzle requires a lot of room to construct. And this is a construction job. I built it on the coffee table, but room was at a premium.
Now be aware that it comes with instructions of a sort and they are required, in my oppinion, to sucessfuly complete the project. Also you need to be aware that even though many of the walls once they are constructed appear interchangable, they are not. Everything fits but only if they are in the correct location and that is not obvious. If everything does not properly mesh, it is because either the scrap has not been cleared out of all the mesh points or the walls are in the wrong locations. I had 3 or 4 walls in the wrong locations and the walls were not fitting together. So be patient and move them around until they do fit.
Now, the box says 12+ in age. This would be a great puzzle for a budding civil engineer. But a 12 year old will perhaps need more patience than I had when I was 12. Dad or mom should be handy to offer insite into why the walls are not fitting together. Actually, I think with help and encouragement a 10 can do it.

(More customer reviews)My aunt, grandmother, and I spent about 2 hours putting this puzzle together Christmas afternoon. It is basically 5 individual puzzles that connect to form the pyramid. It was difficult to figure out which part of the puzzle a piece went to because all but the blue side use very similar colors. I also found it quite difficult to connect all of the pieces because the sides would collapse when you tried connecting them.
