He has chosen to make wearing a fedora a part of that. I really wasn't sure if he was serious, (ball caps had been his thing, when he wore anything on his head at all!) and this was an inexpensive way to see if it worked for him.
(The Indiana Jones tag is almost unnoticeable, making it look more like an authentic hat and not a prop.)
He's been wearing it day in and day out since Christmas, in all kinds of weather. (15 days!) It has even survived being slept on by his little sister! (Long car trip; he left it on the carseat between them; she's 7 and had slumped over in the dark, asleep; he'd fallen asleep first!)
So I heartily recommend this, whether for a costume prop, or a style option!

The only flaw with the hat is that it's a little taller and skinnier than I would have expected, however it still works perfectly for my purpose. I'm using it as decor at my Dr. Seuss party and for the Mother to Be To wear in Pictures. There are some hats that are fuller and a little shorter, but they're much more expensive. This one will work perfectly for me.

(More customer reviews)First, let me say that the hat that arrived does NOT look like the one in the picture. The hat is very floppy, the feather is sparse and crooked, and the lovely green checkered band seen in the photo is actually a plain, flat colored cheap fabric. For the money, I expected a better product. As all the McGonagall hats on Amazon have the same photo, I'm not sure if you can order a different or better one.
A better option would be to find someone to make you the hat.

I called Amazon, told to call the sender (Toynk Toys) who never returned my call or responded to an email I sent through Amazon. Amazon supposedly initiated an investigation with UPS and I was promised by a customer Service Representative named Kuman on 10/28 that I would receive an email with the results of that investigation in 10 days, but I have hear nothing. Needless to say I am very unhappy with the quality of service.

(More customer reviews)Okay, I have to admit I was a little skeptical when I asked my mom to get this hat for me, mostly due to the fact that halloween costume apparel never looks like the costumes do on TV. I have to admit that I was rather ecstatic when I got this in the mail today. It appeared flat when I pulled it out of the box but shaped up quickly and nicely. The feathers are included but you have to put them in the hat yourself, so they are removable. I'm a Harry Potter fan and Minerva McGonagall is one of my favorite characters, so it pleased me that the hat looks like the one she is wearing in the movies. Now keep in mind that she wears at least four different hats, so this hat is actually from The Sorcerer's Stone and Chamber of Secrets. I don't recall seeing her wear it in the other movies. But, amazon sells those other hats too. So, if you're looking for a hat that is worth the price I suggest this one.

Harry Potter Sorting Hat Brown Review

(More customer reviews)There is a pocket inside the hat to put a baby monitor, or a walkie talkie- that way you can make it seem more realistic. The kids at the party were shocked that the hat was talking! I had them all put it on their head, and it sorted them into their houses for the party. Someone was in another room with a baby monitor saying the kid's names and telling them why they were chosen for their prospective house. The hat is just cloth, but, looks more like the real thing than anything else I found. My daughter hung it in her bedroom after the party.
