(More customer reviews)I got this on a lark - picked it up - put it back - walked around Barnes and Noble some more, then came back to this. It drew me for no other reason than curiosity. So I got it and came home to open the box.
Inside are two decks of cards, Spooky Light, some cardboard coins (these coins are the cheapest quality items here) and two color game rules pamphlets. Put batteries into the Spooky Light and tried the different buttons. Top one is for just the light only. Uses 5 small LED lights so I consider it high quality. Not really bright, but just right for the effect. Push the next button Thunder and that's the sound. Then comes the wolf cry. Next is the scream and finally the laugh. Perfect for blowing away telemarketers.
The smaller deck of cards (Vampires Rise) includes 5 different character cards to mold into your tale.
The larger deck has well over 100 cards - such as 'Ventriloquist' Doll, Prom Queen, Zoo, Rusty Axe, Wreck Havoc, plus cards that include beginnings, endings and seques statements like "Yes, that is true, but what people don't know is."
The object of the game is simple. Each player is dealt cards and they create a story connecting with their cards. Once they connect with the card they can discard that card. Opposing players will try to steal the story to become the storyteller so they can eliminate their cards. First one with no cards wins.
Be careful with young children with active imaginations as this game could leave them with nightmares as this one Beginnings card illustrates - "Last week, I glanced over at my neighbor's house and saw a stranger with cold eyes staring right back at me."
I am impressed at the quality materials used here and give credit to this company for supplying a good quality storytelling game that should keep us creating Spooky Tales for some time.
