(More customer reviews)We really did a splurge and got several Bead Bazaar sets for our daughter's Birthday Slumber Fiesta (we had tacos, sopapillas, nachos, etc.) These were gifts for the girls to take home as well as an activity, along with the movie, food, games, etc.
The blue/sky set is exquisite. The bamboo box itself is wonderful and a lovely sturdy gift that can be enjoyed even when the beads are all gone. The girls had fun creating gifts for one another.
Other pre-teen items I feel comfortable recommending:
Girls mystery series that has positive role models and clever plots. The Statue in Glen Park (Cassie Kingston Mysteries),The Message in the Transom (Cassie Kingston Mysteries)
The movie we all had fun watching at the Fiesta.Race to Witch Mountain (Single-Disc Edition)

We had a great time learning about the projects, recording the steps and observations (important, but not included in the package), and enjoying the results. There are lots of parts, so be careful that you don't lose any of them (e.g., Schottke diode).

(More customer reviews)My daughter was pleased as punch. She got 900 feet (that's a lot for child sized mittens and scarves!) of yarn and a pretty basket to keep the things neat. The needles were just fine. A few other kits at our local shop were going for twice this and didn't have as much yarn and the "baskets" were cheap plastic tubs. If something is damaged I know we usually exchange the item to the store or call the manufacturer and they're more than happy to replace items. Also my daughter is seven years old and just entered 1st grade and she had no problems understanding the instructions with a little help from me.
