(More customer reviews)In searching for halloween decorations I compared several different "bag-o-bones" and this was the best I found. This review is being written nearly 3 months after halloween, so I haven't seen them for a while.
Plus: cheap & look good
Con: Not a full skeleton, several duplicated long bones, and other long bones missing.
Material/Durability
These bones are made of hollow plastic (the feet & hands may be solid, or near solid). The plastic used is fairly thin, but it is not brittle. This means that they can be bent or creased if stepped on, or treated extremely roughly. However with normal use as a decoration they should hold up just fine for many years. To be better they would have to go to solid plastic or resin, which I'm sure would drastically increase the cost.
Appearance
I have worked with real bones before and I find these impressive for the price. The first thing I did when I received them (ordered 2 bags) was lay them out as you would human remains (think the tv show bones). There was only 1 or 2 ribs, a few vertibrae stuck together (with a weird plastic rectangle added at the top) and several extra fibula & radius bones. There were 2 tibias per bag and were from the same side (all lefts, or all rights.. don't recall which). There were no scapula. I believe the fused vertibrae included were all cervical, but not C1 or C2. I believe there was also only one half of the pelivis bones. The bones are life-size. Don't look for fine detail such as epiphysis fusion (age), dorsal pitting (child birth), etc...
Educational Value
I think it's kinda silly to have an educational rating on this product as it's purpose, "decorations" is included in the name of the product. If you want a skeleton to study human anatomy, don't buy "decorations". That said, there are certinaly a lot one could teach or talk about with them as far as identifying specific bones and pieces there of. As previously mentioned, they aren't detailed enough to show things like age or life events that would be reflected on bones.
Summary:
Awesome for a decoration. Not intended as an educational tool nor a hammer nor stepping stone.
