(More customer reviews)I bought this toy at target, at around Christmas, and only afterwards did I open it. When I did, I found it to be a hefty weighted toy that seemed durable and greatly articulated.
First, is the durability, something that Mcfarlane toys often have problems with. The figure is made of a tough plastic( It would seem ) that is thick in all the limbs. However, the weak-points are probably at the joints. If you were to twist something a bit too hard or pull something back too much at the joint, it would probably break off. My personal gripe is that the little stub on the assault rifle broke off. It would seems that only a little bit of glue was holding it on, as it doesn't look torn at all, but rather flat, also you can see the small dabs of dried out glue. Before that, it actually got wedged into the hole in the back of the spartan (but I was able to put it back, THEN it broke). I'm probably gonna have to stick it back in place with super glue, seeing that's the most popular solution. But, the good thing is, that there aren't any glued stubs on the rest of the figure.( I hope)
Onto the appearance of the figurine. The paint job is okay, it looks a bit inadequate in some places, but in others it seems to be overlapping, but that occurs rarely. The figure is supposed to look like it has scratched, and roughened armor, but it somehow looks weird on the white background. The paint on the visor is my favorite, it looks reflective, just as it should, and it gives the figure that whole "wow" factor! The sculpture is the best thing, no questions asked. Mcfarlane lives for details, and it's delivered! You can be on your Xbox for hours, noticing all the little intricate details on your in-game character, put onto the figure by Mcfarlane. They even got the grooves on the puny little grenade, perfectly right! Unbeaten quality!
Now for the important stuff, the whole articulation and mechanics of the figure. First, let me say that the shoulder pads, and chest piece are detachable. The shoulder pads aren't that hard to remove, but the chest piece is a whole 'nother story. I was trying to remove it, and I barely got to removing the two pegs near the shoulders, when I found myself trying to loosen the two bottom pegs near the ribs. I simply couldn't do it. It's quite cramped to get your fingers in, your only hope would be to attack it from the sides. My fingers were hurting afterwards. After that, is left the articulation. The head is movable in any direction. The shoulder has a ball joint, which can be moved in any direction a few notches. The elbow has a joint that can be moved side to side, up and down, but the forearm piece can swivel also. The wrist has the same joint as the elbow, and can also swivel. The spartan is also movable at the waist, but not by much. The most complicated part is the hip. First, there is a basic joint which can only be moved up and down, but then on top of that is the actual thigh piece which can be moved left to right. The knee can be swiveled, and also bend. The ankle is the same as the shoulder joint, and finally, the toes can be swiveled in place, and also moved a measly amount up and down. A comment I have on the articulation, is that you shouldn't move it too fast, it's more of a cautious one. Be sure to test out how much a joint can move in segments. And if somethings not moving, then add an extremely small amount of cooking oil.
Misc:
The figurine is greatly posable, but it may prove to tip over a lot, so be sure to adjust it at waist. There are two twist-ties from what I remember, and a small segment of tape keeping the grenade in place.
SUMMARY(READ THIS IF YOU DON'T WANT TO WASTE TIME):
Paint job is okay, sometimes messy.
Sculpture is incredible, and extremely precise.
Durability is okay in body, but watch out for pegs.
Shoulders and chest piece can be removed, but chest may prove difficult
Almost all joints are articulated, but be cautious.
