(More customer reviews)This is the 2009 update to the classic Cathedral board game, which I first purchased in 1995 (a beautiful edition that came in its own wooden box). Game play is the same, so see those reviews. What makes this version special is that, instead of generic medieval village structures, the 28 pieces depict monuments from around the world.
The borders of the game board represent the Great Wall of China, the City Wall of Marrakech, the Wailing Wall of Jerusalem, and the Ruins of Great Zimbabwe. The multi-lingual instruction booklet doesn't make it easy to identify unfamiliar monuments, though I imagine you'll have it down after a few plays. The selections are excellent but they could have added a lot of value by including some descriptive info about these famous landmarks.

The board and pieces are made of "polystone" and have enough detail to be easily recognizable. One piece arrived broken: the tallest one, the CN Tower, which was especially disappointing since we currently live in Canada and it's the only monument our 3-year-old has visited. At 9"x9" the board is smaller than my Cathedral game but the box is huge (6" tall), so storage need not be a headache if you substitute a layer of bubble wrap for the shaped plastic trays it ships with.
All in all, I'm very happy to own this version of the game. But there's no way it's worth the list price of 60 dollars! I bought it on sale for 26.
UPDATE: One week later, we've lost the Statue of Liberty's torch and a spire off the Mud Mosque. Whatever "polystone" is, it doesn't have the durability of the older wooden game. Glad I didn't pay too much!
