(More customer reviews)I'm really surprised that there are no other reviews for this item. It's a great-looking set of Uno, and really stands out in a long line of the traditional Uno appearance.
The "Mod" look is very modern and chic, and that's what mainly drew me into purchasing this set. I've lost my previous set of Uno (who hasn't), so waited till I found one that looked appealing. I'm not quite sure, though, if this'll last as long.
From what I remember, the traditional-looking Uno cards had a more durable, perhaps even plastic, feel to them. These cards, though, feel very thin and cheap. Bend them once, and they'll probably be bent for good.
The new and simplistic look is certainly attractive, but having no words, such as "Reverse," "Skip," etc., can become confusing for new players. Virtually everyone has probably played Uno by now, but even a veteran player might get confused with such cards having no words (especially the Wild cards).
Despite this, the addition of a new card, the "Mod" card, is really neat in that a player can get rid of a certain color of cards by passing them to other players, and call a new color. It's a fun card that should've been introduced a long time ago.
The case itself looks convenient, but the bright red plastic is very soft and will eventually get severely scuffed. The pockets for the two decks (really one deck, but split in twain) each have little tabs that prevent the cards from jostling around, but also prevent the owner from guesstimating where one can split the deck in half and just put however many cards in each slot. You pretty much have to cut the deck exactly in half.
If you're looking for a new and attractive look for Uno, this is your set. But if you're looking for a deck that you can use quickly, put away quickly, is efficient for newbies, and will last long, you're probably better off with the traditional deck that costs half as much at most stores.
