The set is well laid out, the supplies well marked, and the containers of the materials are very well designed (always a concern with a chemistry set). The instructions are clear, and work well from introductory to more complex. The experiments are fun, and even introduce a little "magic" which is cool. This is a real chemistry set, and gives kids the feel that they are doing real experiments (which they are) and not just playing. Educationally, the set is very good at introducing concepts in the context of each experiment. It may seem kind of expensive for a beginner kit, but it is a high quality kit. When you compare it to the marginally less expensive "kiddie kits" that are out there, it's worth it.
COMPLAINTS (all minor): The very first experiments require making a solution that needs to rest for a day, so be prepared for that. Hopefully it will reinforce to your kids the reality that this is real science. I was a little disappointed that there were some things you will want that aren't part of the kit. For example denatured alcohol isn't usually part of your normal household supplies (isopropyl is not denatured alcohol). These are considerately labeled in the manual, however. The test tube stand is a little shallow to hold test tubes firmly, but it holds them well enough.
