(More customer reviews)I've been looking forward to the release of this particular figure for a while. I have a display of figures set up with the main representatives of all the Lantern Corps. My previous Hal Jordan figure was the one from the Superman/Batman series based on Ethan van Sciver's artwork. That figure was okay, but the comically wide stance and lack of a decent pose held it back.
This figure is an immediate improvement in those regards. Hal has a more natural stance now, and both his feet finally fit on the standard GL display base. The bicep and ankle swivels add a bit more range to his articulation, though wrist joints would have been appreciated as well. As it stands, Hal's right hand never looks natural unless it's holding the included lantern accessory. In terms of sculpt, this figure uses the same basic body as the John Stewart and Kyle Rayner figures from earlier in the Blackest Night series. It more or less resembles Ivan Reis' art, particularly with the raised chest emblem. Thankfully, the goofy detachable chest piece from the Superman/Batman figure is gone.
The one real problem I have with this figure is in the paint work. I was hoping the green portions of Hal's costume would be don in the darker, more metallic shade seen on the John and Kyle figures. Even the official images from DC Direct seemed to indicate this would be the case. Unfortunately, the finished product retains the same lighter shade of green as earlier Hal figures. Because of that, he still doesn't quite fit in with the rest of the Blackest Night figures, all of which have that metallic sheen to their costumes.
Overall, this isn't a bad effort, and those seeking a Hal Jordan figure from DC Direct will probably find it to be their best and cheapest option. But even so, I find myself hoping the company will revisit Hal again in this costume. They never quite seem able to nail every aspect of the character at once.
