(More customer reviews)Fun set. As a kid I just had the little HO-scale cars. I discovered this scale and this set when looking for an xmas present for my 9 yr old son. And these larger cars are much more fun.
The tracks are wide and take up alot of room though. This is a small set and still it takes up a good 6' x 3' area.
The cars are nice. One word of advice is take off the side mirrors and spoilers etc ahead of time. Otherwise they'll bust off. And to take them off it seems best to take off the body first and "punch" them out because otherwise you'll break them off when trying to save them.
Then again maybe you don't care and not sure I do. You're going to lose those little pieces anyway.
The only knock on this set is, in hindsight, should have went with the $200 set as you get much more for your money it seems. The $200 set I'm thinking of is the Carrera Checkered Flag set. It's also a tad cheaper from another toy retailer. But you get 2 1/2 times the track and a lap counter for about $70 more. That's a great deal.
But then again that takes up a lot of room. You need a basement or something. I may even return my set and get a larger one although we've already played with it quite a bit. My son loves it.
What we've found out is the yellow car hugs the course much better than the red car. The yellow Camaro has much wider tires. The red car is much faster and more sensitive to the press of the controller. The yellow car seems to have much more play in the controller and isn't nearly as sensitive.
Also the course as setup according to the box is faster in one lane than the other due to the placement of the crossover lanes not being symmetrical or it seems.
Anyway wasn't sure my son was going to take to this and it appears he has. And that was the reason for getting the smaller set. But think twice. Spend the extra $70 I say. Because now I'm easily looking at $70 to get a lap counter and a few more pieces of track.
