(More customer reviews)The design of these cards is fairly nice. Face cards, aces and the jokers all have photos from the movie. There aren't 4 different sets of photos for each suit. All red diamonds and hearts have the same pictures. All black clubs and spades also share the same picture.
Red aces depict a charging spartan warrior, red jacks are the leaping spartan warrior, red queen are Queen Gorgo, and red kings are obviously Leonidas.
Black aces depict the slave giant in chains, black jacks are an immortal warrior, black queens are one of the armless transvestite concubines, and black kings are a roaring Xerxes.
The two jokers are the disfigured Ephialtes.
The specific pictures are a mixed bag. Queen Gorgo is amazing, as are Leonidas, the Immortal, and the giant. The picture of Xerxes isn't very sharp, the spartan aces have a very busy background, and the concubine is just plain disturbing. With better pictures for some, this set could have been fantastic.
2-10 just show the number of suits centered in the middle. The font for the cards has a nice worn/faded look to it, without negatively affecting readability.
What crushes me is the really flimsy construction of the cards. They are very thin with a slightly gritty matte finish. This means they tend to stick together, don't shuffle well, and get dinged, bent, and warped easily. For regular use, I would avoid this set. It is much more a novelty than a trustworthy regular playing deck.
On the plus side, there are two identical decks included in the tin box. The tin itself is nice and sturdy, even though the lid doesn't secure very tightly and easily pops off if shaken or bumped hard enough. The picture on the outside of the box is a bloody, belligerently bellowing Leonidas with the 300 logo branded on it. Unfortunately, in large font type above his head it reads "Prepare for glory!", which I find a little cheesy.
A nice novelty and piece of movie memorabilia, but pretty poor as far as functional playing cards.
