(More customer reviews)This is a fine educational model for kids interested in learning more about the human skull. The skull model is very simplified, of course, but adequate for most children. I teach anatomy at the college level and this model would be far too simple for that purpose- but for elementary and middle school kids, it's perfect. It's easy enough to quickly assemble within 5-10 minutes, can be taken apart and re-assembled readily. It helps kids understand the basic anatomy of the skull: hemispheres of the brain, cranial sutures, how the brain fits inside inside the cranium. The jaws can be opened and closed via the rubber band attachment and the eyes really insert into the eye sockets (and glow in the dark, which is a nice touch for the kids.) The accompanying book includes more detailed information, as well as several hands-on experiments relating to brain function.
If you want a large, detailed skull model for learning all of the cranial bones and muscles, this is clearly not the model for you. On the other hand, if you're looking for an inexpensive, fun model to introduce some basics of skull anatomy to a child, this is a nice purchase.
