After 10+ years and four children, our first one had fallen apart. Our second set I loaned to an elderly couple. The husband has early stage Alzheimer's, and the couple had heard that playing chess might help them both retain memory. They had never played chess before and were getting very frustrated at learning a new -and complicated - game. QuickChess to the rescue! It uses a less complicated board to teach the basic moves. When the student is ready, the board can be flipped over to a regular chess board and the remaining pieces put into play. Great twist on an old game!
